Initiation into Plant Spirit Medicine
Guided by the Wheel of the Year and its seasonal wisdom, this apprenticeship spans a full year within the ancient mystery traditions. Moving through the eight seasonal gateways, you enter into rhythm with the living Earth and the great cycles of death, renewal, growth, and integration.
This experiential online apprenticeship is a foundational training in plant spirit medicine, animist practice, and intuitive development. Held within a ceremonial container, it invites you into a process of deep transformation and initiation through direct relationship with the plants, the land, and the subtle realms. Together, we walk the Wheel of the Year, deepening connection with the plants as conscious allies, elders, protectors, and teachers.
Through ceremony, ritual, and embodied earth-based practices, you will begin to experience the sacred as something lived within the fabric of your daily life. As your senses open, the world reveals itself as animate and aware. You learn to listen, to perceive, and to walk in conscious relationship with Great Nature and your own inner knowing.
This apprenticeship focuses on awakening and strengthening your intuition, and developing your ability to connect and communicate with plant allies and nature spirits through embodied knowing. Each gateway introduces new animist practices, somatic tools, dreamwork, and ceremonial teachings that support inner gnosis and deepen your capacity to receive.
A Path of Relationship
Central to the apprenticeship are the eight plant diet initiations, each aligned with a gateway of the Wheel of the Year. Through conscious relationship with each plant, often through tea or tincture, ceremony, and embodied practice, the plants become teachers and guides. These initiations support the integration of new levels of awareness within the body and strengthen your ability to perceive and trust direct knowing.
Each plant reflects an aspect of your own nature. Through this process, you deepen self-awareness and restore integrity across body, soul, and spirit. You begin to recognize how life experiences can be alchemized into wisdom and medicine, and how the plants support your unfolding as a conscious participant in the living world.
This apprenticeship is an initiation into relationship. Relationship with the Earth. Relationship with the plant nations. Relationship with Spirit. Relationship with your own true self.
The healing that occurs within this work extends beyond the individual. It includes the Earth, the plant world, and the collective field. In this time of global transformation, the plants carry essential teachings for human awakening and evolution. The Eight Earthgates
The Plant Spirit Apprenticeship begins with a preparation phase, followed by eight initiatory gateways aligned with the Wheel of the Year.
The opening weeks of the apprenticeship establish the foundations of animist perception, plant spirit communication, and sacred relationship. From this grounded beginning, we enter the first initiatory gateway at Samhain, where the plant diet cycle begins.
Each Earthgate marks a threshold of transformation and includes a sacred plant diet initiation with a specific plant ally. Together, these gateways form a complete cycle of descent, transformation, embodiment, and integration.

October | Preparing the Vessel
The apprenticeship begins with three foundational sessions designed to prepare your body, nervous system, and perception for plant spirit initiation.
This phase establishes the groundwork that allows the plant diets to unfold safely and deeply.

At Samhain, the initiatory cycle begins. This is the gateway of descent, when the veils between worlds grow thin and the first plant initiation opens.
Western Red Cedar steps forward as the guardian of the threshold. Cedar is the protector, the bridge between worlds, and the keeper of sacred space. Through this plant diet and ceremony, you cross the first initiatory threshold and begin the deeper journey.

Mugwort becomes your ally for dreamwork, visioning, and plant spirit communication. Through her guidance, you will learn to move between worlds and deepen trust in your intuitive perception.

At the Spring Equinox, day and night come into perfect balance. This is the gateway of emergence, when the inner transformation begins to take form in the visible world.
Angelica steps forward as the plant to support us to strengthen our central pillar, teaching you to stand between worlds with clarity and sovereignty, becoming a clear channel between Earth and star, spirit and body.
Through this Earthgate, you will be introduced to the practice of Seiðr, the ancient Norse oracular art of becoming a bridge between worlds. Rooted in your body and supported by the plants, you learn to enter deep states of listening and embodied knowing.
This gateway also marks the birthing of your ceremonial staff. The staff becomes an extension of your central pillar and your relationship with the land, Earth, star and spirit.

Beltane marks the gateway of flowering, when life force rises and the world comes into bloom.
Hawthorn is a protector and threshold ally, holding the medicine of both blossom and berry, life and death, sexuality and spirit. Through this plant diet initiation, you learn how to open the heart safely while remaining grounded and sovereign within your own field.
This gateway deepens your ability to walk at the hedge between worlds, strengthening boundaries, relational awareness, and the capacity to enter conscious relationship with the unseen.

Motherwort teaches reciprocity as a living practice, restoring connection between body, Earth, and spirit. This initiation opens awareness of the maternal lineage carried within the cells through mitochondrial inheritance, while also strengthening relationship with the solar force that animates life.
Through this gateway, you begin to experience yourself as a meeting place of Earth and Sun, Great Mother and Great Father, learning to walk in right relationship with the forces that sustain life.

In this final gateway, you will choose your own plant ally and enter into direct, intentional relationship. This self-guided plant diet initiation becomes your final integration, strengthening trust in your perception and your ability to walk this path independently.
This gateway marks the transition from apprentice into practitioner, grounded in relationship with the plant nations and the living Earth.

Megan Sophia
Medical herbalist, multidimensional healer, educator, and founder of Earth Light Mystery School and Ancient Origins Medicinals.
Megan has devoted over two decades to the path of plant spirit medicine, animist practice, and earth-based ceremonial traditions. With formal training in biopsychology, clinical herbalism, somatic practice and more than ten years working in mental health and addictions , she brings grounded skill, discernment, and nervous system awareness to the spaces she holds.
Alongside her clinical and academic background, Megan has undertaken long-term apprenticeship in plant spirit medicine and ancestral healing traditions. The plants have been her primary teachers since early life, shaping a way of working that bridges ancient wisdom with embodied modern practice.
For over a decade, she has guided thousands of students through initiatory training, healing work, and apprenticeship journeys, helping them strengthen intuition, deepen sovereignty, and return to right relationship with the living Earth.
Megan lives and works on Vancouver Island, on the traditional and unceded territory of the Quw’utsun’ people, where she is building a Healing Sanctuary as the land continues to guide and inform her work.

What is a Plant Diet / Plant Initiation?
A plant diet, plant initiation, or plant immersion is a sacred practice of entering into direct relationship with a plant spirit. Rather than approaching a plant through a purely linear or reductionist model, studying their actions, constituents, or uses from the outside, we surrender to their wisdom and allow the learning to come from within.
This is an ancient way of remembering. The plant awakens our inner gnosis and transmits teachings directly through the body, dream, and spirit.
To be initiated by a plant is to open to their vibration, to trust their guidance, and to surrender to their way of teaching. In this apprenticeship, plants are approached as elders, protectors, healers, and guides. Each one carries not only a physical body, but also energetic, spiritual, and ancestral bodies.
Through this living relationship, the plant can begin to shift the inner ecology of our being. Through conscious ingestion of the plant, often through tea or tincture, combined with meditation, journeying, altar work, and ceremony, the plant’s presence can support deep healing, expanded perception, and remembrance of true self.
A plant initiation is ultimately an act of remembrance. Remembering that we are not separate from nature, that we belong to the Earth, and that the green beings are here to walk beside us as allies in our awakening.
What is a Plant Spirit Initiation?
A plant spirit initiation is a way of being directly initiated by the plants themselves, stepping into a sacred relationship where the plant is acknowledged as elder, teacher, and guide.
In this work, we recognize that plants are not simply resources or remedies, but living beings and spiritual allies. Through conscious relationship, devotion, and listening, we invite the plant to teach, heal, and awaken us.
Throughout the apprenticeship, each month we enter relationship with a new plant ally. We work with their medicine, listen through meditation and journeying, tend an altar, and integrate the teachings through lived experience and community reflection.
Plant spirit initiations are designed to deeply nourish true self essence on the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual levels, activating life force energy within you so you can remember who you truly are and embody the essence of your true nature.
When does the apprenticeship begin and end?
The Plant Spirit Apprenticeship begins in October 2026 and ends in October 2027. All dates for live calls will be shared upon registration.
Is this program online?
Yes. This is a fully online apprenticeship, held through weekly live gatherings. You will also have access to replays and teaching materials to support your integration
When are the live weekly calls?
Live calls take place on Wednesdays from 10am to 12:00pm Pacific Time.
What if I cannot attend live?
All live sessions will be recorded, and replays will be available. You are welcome to participate live when you can, and receive the teachings through replay when needed.
How much time should I expect to commit each week?
Most students spend 2.5 hours in the live gathering, plus additional time for personal practice, integration, and relationship with the monthly plant ally. The depth you receive is directly connected to the devotion you bring.
Do I need to be an herbalist to join?
No. This apprenticeship is open to all: beginners,experienced practitioners, or simply those who feel the call.You do not need a background in herbalism, shamanism, or journey work, only a sincere desire to learn and a willingness to practice consistently.
Is this a certification program?
This is an apprenticeship and initiatory training. It is designed to deepen your intuitive relationship with plants and the subtle realms, and to build strong foundations in plant spirit medicine and animist practice. A certificate of completion is offered, but this training is not a regulated clinical certification.
What plants will we be working with?
We will be learning about a wide range of plants within the program; however we will be diving deeply with the following plant allies: Western Red Cedar, Rosemary, White Yarrow, Mugwort, Angelica archangelica, Hawthorn and Motherwort.
Is this work safe if I am new to spiritual practice?
Yes. The program is structured to build skills step by step, with a strong emphasis on embodiment, discernment, and energetic integrity. You will never be pushed to go beyond what feels appropriate for your system. This is the recommended entry way into all further programs offered in the Mystery School.
Is there a community space to connect with others?
Yes. You will have access to an online community group platform to share reflections, ask questions, and connect with your cohort throughout the apprenticeship.
Are there any in-person components?
The apprenticeship is fully online. Students may also receive invitations to additional in-person events such as rites of passage, harvesting and medicine making, ceremonies, and retreats.
